Summary of NECTA’s History
After Tanzania Mainland had pulled out of the East African Examinations Council, in 1971 and before NECTA was established by Law, in 1973, the Curriculum and Examinations Section of the Ministry of Education was responsible for all examinations. With the establishment of NECTA, the Examinations became its responsibility in accordance with the law.
The Curriculum continued to be under the Ministry of Education and the University College, Dar es Salaam until when it was taken over by the newly established, autonomous Institute of Curriculum Development (ICD) in 1975, which in 1993 was renamed as the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE).

The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has named Eluleki Evaristo Haule, a graduate of St Anne Marie Primary School in Dar es Salaam, as the first one of the Class of 2021 examination results.
Announcing the results today, Saturday, October 30, 2021, the Executive Secretary of Necta, Dr. Charles Msonde said the best national candidates are those who have scored more marks than their counterparts in the six subjects examined.
He named Happy Joseph Deus from Twibhoki Primary School in Mara Region as second one and third place went to John Chacha Charles from Twibhoki.
Ombi Juma from Mtuki Highland in Dar es Salaam is in eighth place and Juliana John Shimbala from St Joseph’s in tenth place is holding Jackline Manfredy from school. of Masaka located in Dar es Salaam.
